My story began at British Vogue at 18. My first task was to copy out Anna Wintour’s Rolodex (after all this was work experience). Then came my first interview, it was with John Frieda – I still have the article somewhere. It was on hands and he was charming.
Fast-forward four years back at Vogue post study and for a moment assisting Isabella Blow. I remember standing beside her as she chimed across Regent Street in full regalia toward a fledgling Kate Moss, the hairdresser James Brown and photographer Corinne Day. All eyes were on us: my first fashion moment.
My next came with my first job – in fashion and beauty PR – I have an Elizabeth Hurley Versace dress story to tell. I returned to the world of magazines and spent over a decade as a beauty editor. Writing, writing, writing; and flying models and photographers across the globe – directing editorial shoots in Australia, Jamaica, South Africa the Far East and LA. Fashion (and beauty) moments a plenty.
Today I write for Vogue Japan and the FT, YOU and Inspire, Get The Gloss and more, amid boxes and shelves stacked with the latest beauty booty. I consult to a handful of beauty and luxury brands. And this is my blog.
It’s my take on beauty and style for grown-ups – or that moment when not all is quite as it was when you look in the mirror. The journalist Sarah Vine recently put the age at 37. I say 37 on a bad day, 41 on a good. In the hands of a skilled make-up artist (Mary Greenwell please) it’s 50+. But here’s the thing: with a few pearls of wisdom and a handful of well chosen products, the power is with you.
With this in mind my blog is an edit of the best products, treatments, tips and ideas to inspire and interest you. Ideas and comments too – my take if you will.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I love writing it. Be great to hear from you.
