Bafta winning beauty 2013

Clockwise from top left: BAFTA/ Jonny Birch, Stephen Butler, Jonny Birch all for Lancome

Through-the-roof nail polish sales may have superseded lipstick as most popular cosmetic purchased during a recession.  But at the BAFTAs, lipstick slicked lips were out in force.   Perhaps this had something to do with the fact that Lancôme, makers of particularly fine lipstick, was once again make-up sponsor.   There was no single theme – just the trio of red carpet classics: the perfect red, the perfect berry and the perfect nude.  I’ve pinned down my make-up moles for the low down on three of the best dressed lips:

Bond girl beauty, Olga Kurylenko – Lancôme Rouge In Love 181N

Anna Karenina’s, Alicia Vikander – Lancôme Rouge In Love 277N

Pan Am’s Bridget, Annabelle Wallis – Lancôme Rouge In Love 240M

BTW.  Instead of watching BAFTA last night I watched Call The Midwife.  It’s comforting, all-good goodness is just the tonic for cold Sunday evenings.  I found myself wondering what Jenny Lee, its flawlessly make-up free heroine played by Jessica Raine would look like in red lips.   I have the next best thing: Jessica at BAFTA and yes you guessed, in Lancôme – L’Absolu Rouge in 150 Rouge Odysée.  To give her red lipstick staying power make-up artist Jaysam Barbosa applied a little concealer to her lips, then lined and filled them with red lip liner and applied two coats of lipstick blotting the first coat.

Hair note: Jessica’s glossy up-do was created by the hairdresser, Marc Trinder.  To style and fix it, he used Charles Worthington’s Amplifying Volume Treatment, Body Booster Mousse and Max Hold Hairspray.
