Percy & Read Hair
Session stylists, Paul Percival and Adam Reed opened Percy & Reed, in London’s West End in 2007. Four years on they have introduced a collection of shampoos, conditioners and styling products. Hand drawn illustrations of long locked girls combined with handwritten product names and amusing phrases are chic and fun. Products are good, too.
There are three shampoos and conditioners – Spendidly Silky Moisturising, Bountifully Bouncy Volumising and Really Rather Radiant Colour and Shine. Shampoos are £14 and conditioners, £16. There are two conditioning masks including the intensely restorative, Totally TLC Hydrating Mask (£20) with coconut and mango oil, and marshmallow extract. It comes with a hair cap designed by Jessica May Underwood, to help intensify the deep conditioning benefits.
It’s the styling products that belie the session styling background of the dynamic duo. Percival, originally trained by Eugene Souleiman at Trevor Sorbie, has worked with top musicians including Bjork and Kylie Minogue. Reed’s celebrity client base includes Ellie Goulding, Diane Kruger and Agness Deyn. He is a familiar fixture backstage at London Fashion Week as head stylist for shows including Henry Holland, Julien McFonald, and Marios Schwab.
A blow-dry volume boosting cream, Superstar Supersized Bodifying Cream (£14), with elderflower extract, leaves hair soft, smooth and bouncy, without heaviness. Essential session stylist kit includes a fine, firm hold hairspray, Frightfully Firm Session Hold Hairspray (£12); a dry shampoo, No Fuss Fabulousness Dry Shampoo (£12) and a sea salt spray, Wonderfully Wavy Texturising Spray (£14), with white willow leaf extract designed to add texture without leaving hair crisp to the touch.
