Touche Eclat: The Next Chapter

YSL’s Touche Eclat, which launched 20 years ago was the first, cult beauty product.  Such was the excitement and interest from the beauty editors (the initial launch was a low key, tea with just a few – I wasn’t there, still at Uni), it soon became public knowledge and essential kit for every self respecting beauty junkie.  A few years on, practically every woman with an eye for a clever bit of face kit – and a ream of copy cats – followed.

Funny then, that not all women got on with it.  Its pale, light reflecting glimmer, gave the avid user a bit of a panda eye.  What a number of women hadn’t realised was that it wasn’t a concealer, but a brightening highlighter.  In other words, there to be used sparingly, to soften darkness and brighten up tired eyes, rather than conceal dark circles.

There was also only one shade, so it wasn’t right for everyone.   They did launch another couple, but now, they’ve upped the ante and created a collection of seven skin flattering hues.  I recently discovered that my ideal shade is one notch up from the classic No 1 – I’m a No 1.5.   For women with a deeper skin tone, who would have found the original colour far too white will be happy to hear they too are catered for. They’re at Selfridges now, nationwide July 14.

Those going for the BBC’s new £100,000 make-up artist contract, as reported in Saturday’s Telegraph, would be well advised to stock up on each and every shade.  As the Beeb prepares for its switch to HD TV, which shows up every spot, pore and trace of make-up the make-up artist’s job is even more crucial.  There is no room for mistakes.   This little treasure has been fine tuned to work with practically every colouring so could just be, ultimate HDTV kit – not to mention ours.
