Beauty Steal: Almodóvar on Beauty

Pedro Almodóvar: Under His Skin on Nowness.com.

For the cult, arts website, Nowness, the director Pedro Almodóvar touches on the strong women of his childhood, that his ideals of beauty lie in Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis, that the Spanish actress, Rossy de Palma has a cubist kind of beauty (yes, she kind of does). That Penelope Cruz has an expressive kind of beauty.

But what I really love about this short film, beauty buff that I am, is the brief Man Make-up Moment.   It’s about half way through.  There, the make-up table.  And in a flash, we zoom into his eyebrows, lovingly shaded in by the attentive make-up artist.   As for what’s on the table.  A few brushes, loose powder, a compact foundation (Lancôme?), a few lip glosses, a spray bottle of Evian, or is it hairspray?  An idle moment on my part.  A brief soundbite on beauty from the brilliant film director.
