LFW Beauty Must-Do: Eyeko Eye Liner Bar at Selfridges
LFW Beauty Pit-Stop: The Eyeko Eye Liner Bar
As London Fashion Week draws towards a close early next week, one pit-stop set to be an enduring hit is the Eyeko Eye Liner Bar at Selfridges. It opens on Monday (22nd Feb).
Here, a hands on source for tips and demos, you’ve the choice of eight different eye liner looks. From Alexa’s delicate flick, right through to Cleopatra’s diva-esque wing. That the looks span the mid-to-late 20th century via ancient Egypt (by way of Elizabeth Taylor as the fated Egyptian queen circa 1963) to today, shows eyeliner’s lasting appeal. The line-up also includes the Hepburn, Moss, Loren, Bardot, Jolie and the Campbell – icons of eye liner with one to suit you however the mood takes you.
Eye liner is surely the decade’s most enduring beauty signature. When the precious Amy Winehouse first tumbled into our consciousness, her voice seeping melodically into our world, her eyeliner caught the imagination of girls, designers, women, men, make-up houses the world over. And it has continued to thrive, reinventing itself with each season.
Take Diane Kendal’s ‘modern take on eye liner’, her words, at Oscar de la Renta’s show at NYFW in New York on Tuesday. A squared wing over the top outer half of the eye and a fine black line extending the width of the eye, just above the crease: one look secured for autumn.
For summer, Chanel’s new L.A. Sunrise make-up look (see the tutorial here) brings SS16’s hi-octane colour story alive with electric blue eye liner. One for high summer, party, sunset.
And back to right now. It’s my birthday soon and I’m feeling perky. Toying with the Angelina. Though will most likely plump for the Alexa.

5 Best Eye Liners
Classic Pencil – Chanel Le Crayon Kohl Intense Eye Pencil in Black – my preferred tool. I use a pencil then if going for a stronger look, I line over the top with a liquid or pen. By doing the pencil first you have the template (simply can’t do liquid liner freehand). And it’s easier to line along the waterline just under the upper lashes, so you don’t get the tell-tale flesh line that’s less than becoming.
Liner pen – Eyeko Black Magic Liner, £15 Super fine nib so great for creating a super precise line and a super fine flick.
Gel Liner – Bobbi Brown Gel Liner – Personally I like to apply this with a fine, flat, slant brush. Diane Kendal used one by MAC for the Oscar eye too, so I’m on the right track. In fact, just checking my own kit and it’s the same: Brush 208. Love Bobbi’s new Patina Ink version of black – a little glossier so brightening. If you prefer classic matte, stay with Black Ink.
Gel pencil – Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘n Khol Bedroom Black, £19 – goes on like liquid, has the control of a pencil, you can fuzz the edges for a softer look à la ‘Naomi’, but dries fast so act quick. Becoming an iconic liner of choice.
Retractable eye pencil – Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof – I love its slim design and that it has a minute sharpener to keep the point, pointed, the other end.
